After several years of Yeti ownership it is time for a change. The Yeti is a great car and there is no doubt that I will miss some of the features to which I have grown accustomed, but the deed is now done and it was with some sadness that I said goodbye to the trusty L&K.

 

 

 

Oh, yes! - the new car is a Mazda CX-3 Sport Nav in Soul Red.

What engine have you gone for? Auto or manual? Would welcome your views comparing the CX-3 to the Yeti after a few weeks of driving. I am also thinking of changing but am tending to another Yeti so views of alternatives would be great.

IMHO it's not something you'd put 'rubber mats' in - more of a town car.......in comparison the Yeti is a 'tool'.

Regarding the CX-3, it is the Petrol 2.0 litre, Manual.

 

I would say that you can't directly compare it to the Yeti, they are different animals! The Yeti is very much a work-horse and gains on practicality. Having had two now, I fancied a change this time around and liked the look of the CX-3 from the moment Mazda announced it. It suits my purpose at the moment and I would say that needs are an important consideration in the decision.

 

Early impressions are that it will be more economical than the Yeti, even though it is petrol and the Yeti was diesel. One of my main priorities is handling as much of the time is spent on the "twisties" rather than main roads. The Yeti was very good, but was quite heavy and did tend to under-steer rather a lot. The steering on the CX-3 is quite light compared with the Yeti, but it goes exactly where you point it. Apart from this, the main advantages for me are that the ride is much more comfortable (even on 18" wheels!) so it doesn't crash and jolt and rattle on the poor roads to which it will mainly be subjected, and the seats don't give me back ache like those in the Yeti did.

 

The interior finish I like, with the soft stitched fabric on the dashboard and side panels The harder plastics also look better than I had expected after the VAG quality of the Yeti, so I am very pleased with that. Externally, I would say that the shut lines on the Mazda aren't as clean and millimetre accurate as the Yeti, but aren't poor either and in general it seems to be very well put together.

 

Believe it or not, even though the CX-3 is based on the Mazda 2 it is actually slightly longer than the Yeti and about the same width. It isn't quite as tall, but that means I won't need the steps to wash the roof like I did with the Yeti.

 

Finally, that Bose sound system really is good!!

Let us know what MPG you are achieving and a comparison of pros and cons with the Yeti after a month or so. I am getting 42.01 MPG average from my 1.2 Tsi DSG Yeti over 34,000 based on a true brim full to brim full measurement. MPG seems to have improved with higher mileage as I am currently regularly getting more than 43 true MPG. Incidentally I was one of the lucky ones who persuaded Skoda to supply my Yeti with 16" wheels which give a more comfortable ride - not wanting to start that thread again as I know some disagree with me!

they obviously listened, sort of, the SEL OCtavia this month was switched from 17 inch to 16 inch wheels as standard. Also lowered the tax band which I suspect might have been their main motivator. Sadly my car was two weeks early for this but on the plus side I got free park assist and adaptive cruise control.

I wonder if those with 16" wheels on their Yeti are getting better MPG than those on 17"? I am getting 42.1 MPG - 1.2 Tsi DSG - over 34.000 miles brim to brim measurement. However, if this thread gets us into the 17" v 16" argument again I will regret raising it!

What mileage do you get with the 1.4 Tsi Octavia? I had an Octy estate - 2.0 diesel DSG - and got 45 MPG on average so was pleasantly surprised to get 42 from the Yeti with much the same driving conditions.

Only done 150 miles so far, two trips to Glasgow but each returned 51 mpg
