Hi this is to anyone I drive a skoda octavia 2lt L&k 06 plate i've had numerous cars honda toyota ford nissan ? I like the skoda got all that i need in comfort toys to  make life nice to go for a drive,TILL you pull up at a hotel just get comfy and the bloody alarm goes off,Not good at 2 in the morning and most of the guest have pacemakers. could i stop no the only way was to leave the car unlocked .no matter took the car to local garage he plug his vag com in no faults it did bring sum up parking light but its working and a few others up that are also working .The point to all this is ive still got an alarm that goes off when it feels like it the rear wiper does half a wipe then parks were it wants ? NOW i bought one of the genuine Ross-Tech from gendan  ,plug in did a full scan found a few more faults but not one for the alarm and its still going off can you dig deeper with this toy or dose it just tell you there is a fault .witch in this case the alarm is telling me so is the wiper ?regards oldtimer66 yes thats my age and ive worked on cars for many years  :coffee:

Then comes the cost ? Then should I bye my own me thinks that could save some money ,then witch one top of the range Bluetooth ,wifi,cable,The point is they all cost and if like me you think plug in problem solved ? Your wrong ,that's when it all goes tits up .(give me old car and a few spanners they were the days ) We should have a meeting say a training day for dummies on how to use vcds and we can all save money and help one and all regards oldtimer66 ps hope I don't bore you

A scan with VCDS will show the exact reason for the alarm going off. it could be anything from a dodgy sensor, door switch, or the battery in the alarm sounder itself.

you have quite a few faults listed, I woukd clear them first and see which ones then come back

If you go on measured values on the ccm there's a data field which shows the last 4 alarm trigger reasons.

There's also an option in the ccm to fully deactivate the alarm system on cars of that year.

After you have cleared the faults a good place to start is the Ross-Tech wiki then you can see what each DTC means.

It’s not hard to use IMO but then I have a fair understanding on how the software and mechanics / electrics work on a car, I appreciate not everyone is the same, but maybe all you need is a crash course?

Hi gizmo68 you are right not everyone is the same, a lot of the time i'm trying to understand the abbreviations , I think it's an other toy to my collection to gather dust regards oldtimer66  

The acronyms and abbreviations are not Ross-Tech's doing - they are VAG's nomenclature.  In order to work on these cars today, much learning is required outside the scope of the tool one is using. 

 

If Ross-Tech spent all the time needed to include the training required to build expertise, the cost of our product would be prohibitive to the DIY market. Yet, we have produced and published videos on our web site to assist with training.  There are others tools out there in the world wide web.  There are forums like this one to assist. 

 

Oldtimer66, I too am an old timer who has had to learn all the new nomenclature having come to Ross-Tech with little knowledge of these systems.  I read and read and read... my goal is to learn.  If you would post your questions here, I am certain that the forum members would be pleased to assist.
