Spare wheel dimensions

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2011 Octavia 1.4 SE TSI

It came with foam repair kit instead of a spare tyre.

I ordered a full size spare from the dealer. The wheel they supplied is 6Jx15 ET 47 and has a 205/60 R15 tyre on it.

The car came with Skoda alloys, they look standard kit to me. The spare tyre is the same size as the existing tyres but I can find no markings to check that the alloy wheels are the same size as the steel wheel.

The reason I want to know is I'm going abroad and would like to know if the spare is an exact replacement for the regular wheels spec-wise so I can drive normally if I have to use it.

Is the fact that the tyres are the same size enough?

If not, do I need to remove the alloys and get busy with a tape measure to confirm the spec?

Cheers!

I didn't think Skoda fitted 15" alloys anymore. The original entry level pre-FL MkII Octavia's came with the smaller 15" steels / alloys but I was on the understanding the smallest alloy wheel on the facelift (FL) such as with your 2011 model was 16"?

Also if you factory order a spare wheel for the Octavia it is 16", unless of course the car is fitted with 15" alloys.

The specs of the alloy are stamped into the insides of the spokes. If you take a picture and post it here we can find the specs for you.

If the tyre on the spare wheel is the same size as the one on the alloys then you should be good to drive at normal speeds. Despite this Skoda will often recommend a lower speed (via a sticker on the face of the wheel).

The important thing is the rolling circumference. A spare wheel is often a smaller wheel than the ones fitted to the car but run a higher profile tyre to make up for the smaller circumference.

Assuming you have the standard Pyrix alloys then they should be 6,5JX15 ET50.

Means the spare will sit slightly further in, can't say if will be safe to drive at normal speeds but as it's the same sized tyre I imagine you would.

The specs can be found here...

I don't think so. My 2011 Skoda has got size 15'' alloys.
