Fulda Sport Control, Falken ZE914 or Hankook V12 Evo2? Fabia 1.2TSi

Featured Replies

So I usually are very certain about the tyres I want on my car and am an avid Goodyear F1A2 user (Superb II) but I can't justify the £90 per corner on our little Fabia 1.2TSi that does 8k a year.

So on the slightly cheaper end of the scale are these three that I have short listed:

  • Hankook V12 Evo2 (~£72 fitted per tyre)
  • Fulda Sport Control (which I believe is the Goodyear F1A1 design) (~£70 fitted per tyre)
  • Falken ZE914 (~£65 fitted per tyre)

I have used the ZE914 on our previous mk1 vRS and found them to be noisy but hard wearing and a good price. The lighter mk2 might work nicely on this tyre.

I used the V12 Evo (1) on my previous Octavia 2.0PD Estate and was very happy with them (got through 3 sets in total) so they are a very strong contender.

Fulda is an interesting one; not widely sold in the UK but owned by Goodyear. I believe the basic tread design is the F1 Asymmetric v1. Can get from various online retailers and get them fitted locally. Only downside is F for economy but 67dB noise.

I will be replacing all 4 tyres as there is Evergreen EU72 on the rear and Zeta something on the front. I have experienced understeer and oversteer in the same corner at 15mph in the wet (Superb on F1A2 can do the same junction at 25MPH without issue!). I do wonder who thought the £10 a corner saving was a good idea?!?!?

So thoughts please!

I had some Hankook V12 EVO 2 K120 fitted to SWMBO's Astra. Very good tyres, quiet and grippy in the wet

I had some Hankook V12 EVO 2 K12 on my Fabia VRS.  Awful tyre, didn't get on with them in the wet at all.  They last quite a long time though.

On my second set of Uniroyal RS3 at the moment and they are excellent.  Alternatively, how about some Michelin CrossClimate if they come in your size?

Two very different opinions there! I must say I was leaning towards them due to my experience with the Evo v1tyre.

More research needed me thinks.

Cross climate isn't available yet in that size. I did talk to the Michelin guy at the Formula E in London recently and more sizes to come next year. I fear that it isn't a common size and so isnt well catered for.

I had those Hankooks on my old Alfa, they were ok but nothing to write home about and seemed to have VERY soft sidewalks which made it feel pretty odd going into a corner imho.

Wife's car has ze914's all round and I pretty much swear by falkens in this price bracket. My last set were fk453's all round which I was very happy with too but more of a sports tyre than a touring type tyre and they wear quicker.

My Dad runs ze914's on a big old torquey Audi A6 as well with no complaints.

I ran my V12 Evo(1s) on my Octavia with raised pressures over stock and that helped with the floppy side wall. Same to some extent with the F1A2s.

I think I'm going to try the Fuldas. Only £3 more than the Falkens and I'm interested in their performance.

Iv always heard that the fallen ze914 are sloppy in the wet?

Falken ** sorry predictive text

Falkens are good for the price, had them all round on the Vrs. Now have them on the rear on this car, and will put them on the front when required.

They are not so good in the snow, but never had a problem in the wet due to the tread pattern. Like above says they arent the quietest but are hard wearing.
