So, is my Superb on Fixed or Variable Servicing?

Featured Replies

I collected my new Superb from the dealer at the beginning of May. Both prior to collection and on the day I asked the salesman to confirm that the car was set to variable servicing as my annual mileage is in excess of 20K miles. On the day the salesman disappeared for a few moments, returned and confirmed that yes, the car is set to variable servicing (my previous Superb I purchased from the same dealer and salesman and that one was set to fixed but I got them to change it the when I collected the car). After using the new car for a while (having driven 3700 miles) I checked the service status and this is what it is telling me:

The service display is different to the pre F/L Superb I had previously so I don't know if I am reading it correctly.

So does this mean the dealer lied to me and in fact, it is set to fixed (even though it was shipped from the factory on variable servicing)?  Or am I not reading this right?

Cheers

Yup thats on fixed,

he may not have being lying on purpose to you... just clueless!!

Thanks Gizmo68 - nice to know I'm understanding what the display is telling me.  I've emailed the salesman at the dealer and asked for an explanation.

I think that this set to variable as the oil and inspection services are at different times. If it is set to fixed it only shows one service interval.

I know this as I recentley took delivery of my 14 plate 1.4 Superb with 14k miles on and insisted on a service before I bought it and asked for a the fixed10k/annual service interval thereafter  (I don't want high mileage oil changes for a cam chain engine!). I saw the service display before as variable (looked similar to your photo)  and after when fixed - shows a singe service on display

Ok, found out how to attach pictures, display when you are on fixed servicing:-

That makes sense... you would only need to see one mileage if it is on "fixed" 10000 miles of 12 months (365 days)

Remember that longline does not automatically mean a service every 20000 miles or 2 years... This will change depending on how it is driven as per the manual and the oil change mileage will change based on these conditions/use..

Also remember it is NOT "Longlife" servicing... it is "Variable" servicing ;)

Variable service interval
For vehicles with variable service intervals, after resetting the oil change service
display, the values of a new service interval are displayed, which are based
on the previous operating conditions of the vehicle.
These values are then continuously matched according to the actual operating
conditions of the vehicle.

I cant find what Skoda say, but this is how Audi work it out...I expect it will be similar. this is why it is classed as "variable/flexible servicing" not "longlife servicing"

Fixed inspection service Flexible service schedule Recommended for:

Oil Service: Variable to a maximum of 19,000 miles*/ 2 years

Inspection service: Fixed to every 19,000 miles*/ 2 years Fixed to every 19,000 miles*/ 2 years

According to the Skoda website 4 cylinder diesels can now go up to 30,000 miles on variable. I wonder if they've got km and miles mixed up or if some really do go to 30k miles. Mine spends most of its life in top gear on motorways and has never gone past 20k miles before reminding me it requires a service.

Taken from the Skoda website:

All new Octavia, Yeti and Superb models can operate on either a fixed or a variable servicing regime. On variable servicing, intervals are determined by driving styles and conditions of use. The on-board computer will indicate when a service is required which could be up to approx. 20,000 miles for petrol engines, 30,000 miles for 4 cylinder diesel and 24,000 miles for V6 diesel.

No way I would leave a car of mine upto 30000 miles... IF it is miles and not KM's as you say...

I do less than 8000 a year in mine so I chose to have a service after 12 months and had it changed to fixed... For what it costs an oil change does no harm ;)
