Suspension refresh-where to buy bits? and any hints or tips?

Featured Replies

Hi,

the Octy has 187k on the shocks and springs, plus an mot due in December, so I'm thinking of doing

Front Arms

Front Arb bushes

Front droplinks

Front dampers

Front springs

Front topmounts

Rear dampers

Rear springs

Rear topmounts

At the moment I'm planning on replacing the dampers with Bilstein b4s as I'd like the car to still be very comfortable.

these would be coupled to Eibach springs giving a 30mm drop.

my questions are:

1. where is the cheapest place to buy the springs/dampers from?

2. where is best to get the rest of the suspension parts from?

3. Can the front arb be upgraded?

4. does my car have a rear arb?if not can one be fitted?

lastly, are there any hints or tips folk can give me regarding the job?

thanks

No rear arb as standard but can be fitted - many threads on different options and fitting. Front arb upgrade im not sure as the diesel has a different arb and droplink connection set up to the vrs/gti/s3/tt that most people use as the upgrade. Might be altrnatives available though, im not sure...

thanks I will search out some info on the rear arb- cos it lists like a ship just now.

re the front one, maybe a refresh of components should suffice..

I felt a noticabke difference with mine when i replaced the arb bushes and droplinks - solid metal febi ones rather than the plastic standard ones. Need to do my front shocks i reckon, but have to wait til funding is available again..

also fresh rear shocks will make a big change to the listing and rolling. Mine werent gone but tired after 176k, new ones on and much better back end

I had new droplinks, new lower arms and new inner and outer track rods at recent mot fail and my god its like a different car. :)

I run the following setup and its stiffer than standard but not uncomfy.

Koni shocks matched with H&R springs

Power flex top mounts

Febi arb bushes

OE quality replacement lower arms.

where can I source the vrs dampers from?

billie b4s for the tdi are working out at 165 for 4 or there bouts, which I think is pretty good.
