Jacking onto 4 Axle Stands

Featured Replies

Where should axle stands be placed, specifically on the rear of the car when jacking up and supporting all 4 corners?

The fronts I can get under the rear wishbone easily, but last time I really struggled getting the jack and stand under the rear at the same time.

referring to the photo in post 3 of the above linked thread, I use the green squares directly under the springs on the rear control arms.  Sometimes I jam them in where the pivot point is but that isn't as secure.

I have no idea why it says not to do it unless they are referring to the arm in general rather than specifically around the spring seat.  It's a solid point & the arm has enough strength.  I've probbaly put several hundred cars on stands in the past so it's not like I'm a numpty when it comes to these things.

Re why not to jack/use axle stands on the rear suspension arms.

I suspect because they're moveable items and not a steady/secure point, having nothing to do with damaging the actual arms but personal safety.

I've given up worrying about jacking points, immediately behind the sills is strong enough and my jack head has a rubber pad, axle stands are usually placed under front wishbone bush housing and at rear there is a domed plate in front of the rear wheels.

This is where I put the stand last time, but I really struggled to get the jack and the stand under at the same time.
