Skoda octavia mk2 2005 1.9 tdi 105 stiff gear and very light clutch after gearbox oil change

Featured Replies

I tried to change gearbox oil for my mk2 octy 05 reg 1.9tdi 105.

i asked skoda dealer and they said capacity is 1.9lts then i asked local garage and they said 2.5lts.

anyway i bought 2ltrs skoda dealer oil and tried to change myself.

i opened both oil sumps and drain gear box oil first completely. Then i tried to refill it with oil pump slowly but oil started coming back even after less than half ltr tried and oil stopped going inside from side sump hole. Then i again drained oil from bottom sump and put 2.1ltr oil through back light switch. Which seemed ok to me.

but now im feeling 3, 4 and 5 gears bit stiff and little hard to put in speed. I also noticed clutch bit soft now.

Can anyone guide me why gears are little bit hard to putt in. While it should be smooth going after skoda maon dealer oil change.

and why oil is not going inside through the side gearbox sump although i tried to put by pump slowly.

plz help

That doesn't sound like you've got enough oil in there.

How much did you drain out the first place?

The procedure should be.

1. Remove filter plug.

2. Remove drain plug and let it drain out.

3. Replace drain plug.

4. Fill up with oil into the filler plug until oil is level with the filler plug.

5. Replace filler plug.

All that should be done while the car is level obviously.

You shouldn't need any kind of oil pump.

It's hard to pour the oil from the bottle straight into the gearbox, so when I did the change on my previous Fabia I used a short section of pipe that fit inside the filler hole and gravity fed the oil in from above the engine bay.

Don't risk it - a knackered gear box is going to be a very expensive mistake to make.  Take it to the Skoda main dealer/independent VAG specialist, and get them to drain & refill.
