Rough idle

Featured Replies

Past few weeks iv been getting a rough idle. The revs keep dipping and coming back up. What could it be? I had new coilpacks and sparkplugs last year.

First check your breather pipes for splits, and that the pcv valve is not gummed up with oily crud, then make sure the throttle body is clean. After that a code scan would be wise, as you are starting to be looking at electrical units for partial failure. When was the air cleaner last changed?.

New air filter couple of months ago. Iv got a ramair cone. Iv done all the simplification mods and run a oil catch can. I'm guessing it's going to be something electrical. What should I check? I'll scan it tomorrow.

Cleaned the throttle body recently?

No. Should I remove it. I cleaned it in place about a year ago

You can clean it in place, but you will be really suprised how much crap gets behind the throttle plate when you remove it. If you've not had the thing off before, you would be wise to get a new gasket, as they can tear easily if they stick to the manifold.

If you do it on, just get a friend to hold the throttle wide open while you clean it, just don't force the throttle butterfly against the motor mechanism with the key out.

I pulled the maf plug out and it nearly died so guess that's working OK lol.
