Hi there all I joined only today so im not used to this forum but ive been on the mitsubishi L200 forum for ten years.O.K. first question,I am buying a 5 year old superb 2litre 170 bhp on wednesday and could anybody tell me what to look for on this car.Its done 100,000ks(60,000 miles)its badged as a praha 4x4.I will service it myself asap as I dont trust French garages one inch also would I be wise to have the cambelt done at this mileage.Any advise on this car would be appreciated. I am mechanicaly minded,Ive had to be, owning an L200 for ten years!cheers all pete

Salut Pete and welcome aboard!

I am not familiar with the Diesel engines cars but there are loads of Briskoda folk on here who are. For what it's worth if there is no obvious evidence/facture for the cam belt change it would be prudent to get it done along with oil and fluids etc. The search function (top right on here) allows you to type a search and if you select 'this forum' should throw up some answers for you.

Edited to add. If your car has the DSG gearbox an oil service is advised around 68k kms/40k miles to keep things healthy.

A thread on doing the oil service for the diesel superb can be found here:

A quick search at the top 'stickies' amongst the technical guides will also provide you with a bit of help.

Good choice of car by the way :)

Dave

Nice move from the L200!  They are worlds apart and you'll be travelling in real luxury now compared to the rather agricultural ride on an L200.  In terms of the cambelt, you will see from this forum this is one of the most contentious issues with Skoda ownership and has given rise to much debate on here :)   The change interval tends to vary according to market as well but in theory it should be good for 180,000kms (120k miles) for 2.0 170CR.  At the very least I would inspect the belt anyway for any signs of obvious wear.  No major issues to look for but as you're mechanically minded anyway I'm sure you know all the basics to watch for.  Again, this topic has been covered on here before in terms of what to look for so a quick search will throw up a few pointers. .  Is it DSG or manual as this will impact on what you need to look out for as well?

Its a six speed manual.Im always a bit nervous of cambelts and 18000ks seems an awful lot .I will inspect visually and probably change it well before the due mileage. Thanks for the pointers will take a look around the site.Cheers Pete

The cam belt on your engine (same as mine) is recommended for change at 140,000 miles / 225,000 km OR 5 years whichever comes first.

TBH i'm inclined to follow VAG's recommendations and as yours will be 5 years old, I'd do it sooner rather than later.

(actually mine currently has 106,000 miles on it and will be 5 years old in November, so I'll be getting it done then.)

Agreed BJM I am coming to the UK at the end of February next just after the guarantee runs out and will get it changed then as UK garages tend to be a lot cheaper than French ones  :dull:
