The Size of Fabia's, Octavia's and Superb's

Featured Replies

Just a few thoughts/observations about the design/size of the cars in the Skoda range;

I was talking to a friend at work today about cars and happened to mention that the Fabia shared the same platform as the Polo etc... well her chin almost hit the ground.

She was convinced that the Fabia shared the same platform as the Golf/A3, the Octavia shared the same platform as the Passat/A4 and the Superb was based on a Audi A6 type of platform. This got me thinking and I thought if I didn't know to much about the Skoda range then I'd have probably thought the same.

Funny thing is, I myself have often thought how "Golf" like the Fabia feels and quite often people at work have commented about how the Fabia has a look of the Audi A3 about it.... Well later on in the day I look out of the office window (3rd floor) and I have an A3 (3 Door, New Model) parked next to me and to tell you the truth there was not that much difference in size when the two cars were viewed for an elevated hight from a bit of a distance (A3 looked marginally longer and a fraction lower), also the Fabia definatly shared certain design "lines" that the A3 had.

Just wondered if Skoda deliberatly set out to make their cars look bigger than their VAG conterparts or wheather it was a fluke as it appears to many "non" Skoda people that the entire range is based on cars one size up

My Bro parked his Octy II next to an A4 and they were almost identicle lengths.

Definetly better VFM IMHO.

yup everyone i know makes the same comparasons... always compare my furby to golf and our octy est. to passat est.

Not the same with Seat's though is it ?? The Ibiza looks Polo size, etc.... Until you get to the MPV types........ they just look bloody odd !!!!

Not sure what the Fabia is based on but i'd guess the polo floorplan, the Octavia is based on the Golf floorplan hence the long overhangs at each end, the Superb is based on the Chinese market Passat (not the Audi A6 as commonly believed) for some reason the chinese market Passat is longer than the Passat found in every other country! must be due to the well known fact that the chinese are such a tall race!

Wasn't the Fabia the first VAG car to have the new floorpan, the (then) new Polo came later? The Octavia was sharing a floorpan with the Golf and A3?

I must admit, although the Superb is based on the Chinese stretched Passat, I thought it still shared it with the A6. Perhaps I misread something somewhere.

All Skoda Platforms are stretched VW platforms.

The New Octy Mk1 is a stretched A3 rather than a golf - Skoda wanted a softer platform.

The New Octy Mk2 is a Stretched Golf/A3 platform

The Superb is a stretched Passatt

The Fabia is indeed the 1st of the new Ibiza/Polo. It is also stretched.

The common misconception is the Felicia - it is a Skoda Platform (from Favorit) yet some people still insist it's a polo platform. IMHO it's better - but I am biassed

must be due to the well known fact that the chinese are such a tall race!

They need more legroom so they can fit kids in the pockets on the back of the seats

there's only a few mm in it but strangely the Octy has a couple of cm's of extra legroom!

i thought the felicia was based on a Mk3 golf? shareing same rear lights and the caddy and skoda pick up are identical??

No - but some of the parts are from the VW parts bin...

But the cady and Skoda Pick up are the same (built in Czech actually)

i previously had the old shape renault megane (mk1 phase2) and my fabia estate feels much bigger despite being based on a "supermini"

And the Mk3 Golf/Felicia rear lamps arent the same.
