You're dead right.

Disassembled it using the above vid for guidance , removed the 2032 battery, measured 1.5v (Rated @ 3v) and 0 amps. Flat as - but got 13 years of use

Luckily I had a stock of new Duracell 2032s, which although having a slightly different edge profile from the original Panasonic, did fit . . after a bit of tooing and froing.

Cleaned, re-assembled, tested (70% 100% power @ 2.89v)  OK. Cycled the car door locks. Job done.

Of course what was a little disconcerting was the fact that the battery went flat (Fob flashing)  during my OPD appointment at the hospital and when I went to get in the car aferwards, the alarm went off and wouldn't stop, despite applying the  vehicle handbook prescribed remedy. So I had to drive home with the alarm sounding off.

In addition, both front electric windows decided, unprompted,  to execute a "Convenience function" roll up and down - now that shouldn't happen.

I think its going to be out with the VCDS later.

Out of interest, can you de-activate the alarm using a key with a dead battery if the key is inserted in the ignition ?

Having done bit of search.

Only thing i can say is. Unlock door using key

Open bonnet and find fuse to alarm.

Dont know if there is valet button to the fabias.

Only car ever had major probs with was an astra.which was nightmare

I thought the alarm had its own short-term battery....
