Stream MP3 Issue with ncXus V3 music box

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have recently purchased this digital music box http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BT-USB-AUX-MP3-Wechsler-ncXus-V3-Pro-Audi-VW-Skoda-12-Pin-Zufallswiedergabe-/351444712571?hash=item51d3bcbc7b and fitted it to my car but I believe that the Stream MP3 HU is being difficult.

It sounds like only the high end of the sound is getting though and is only being played through the tweeters.  All the functions (SD card, USB, AUX, A2DP and hands free calling) work as they should but something is clearly wrong with the sound.

My question is, am I missing a step?  Does the head unit need to be coded to accept this music box? I wouldn't have thought this would be required as the CDC in my car works fine.

Octavia pre-fl 56 plate

Stream MP3 head unit with CDC and Aux in (both work fine)

Any and all help would be hugely appreciated,

Regards,

I can't help with that unit but if you can't get it working and want a different solution I can recommend a Kinivo BTC450.

I hard wired mine in so all you see is the little round button and it works flawlessly plugged in to the aux socket, again all hidden in the jumbo box.

Thanks Phil. The system you mentioned looks pretty good. That will be my fallback if I can't figure out this problem. Cheers!

No worries. I looked into using a box like you've got as I've successfully used them before (our TT has a Dension unit) but decided to go for the simpler solution this time.

Let me know if you want any info.

I will keep that in mind, thanks.

I just sent an email off to the manufacturers asking for a pin-out diagram so I can do some fault finding.  I have tested this in my friends Audi and it works fine. Confused!

I have just had a look at the pin outs from a Stream MP3 and compared it to some other VAG head unit and have noticed that I could have an earthing problem.  The ncXus box is trying to use the earth for the CD changer but on the Stream it has been swapped with AUX.

Off to the car to poke around!

*Whoooosh*

Just to make everyone aware, the problem has been solved.

Explanation below:

The Stream MP3 head unit with the aux in uses two earths in the CDC connector. One for the CD changer and one for AUX.

Comparing the following two pictures I noticed that the ncXus box used the AUX earth instead of the CD earth.

For some bizzare reason the Stream MP3 is different with respect to earthing points.

To solve this I simply swapped the -ve pin and hey presto, proper sound!
