Headline mentions a a corvette but it's really about telemetry boxes used by Uber and insurers being used as a bridgehead to access the CANBUS on a car.

 

Same as previous stories, when into the CANBUS they can affect brakes steering etc depending on the spec of the car.

I work in vehicle telematics and I don't even want to get into this I will just say I don't let anything near the CANBUS of my car.

 

Having said that though, the common way to attach them is not to plug in to the wiring, but just induction sensors clamped around the wires, making writes back harder.

All of our company vehicles have telemetry boxes fitted that you have to "sign" into with a fob.

 

Quite scary what data is available on the reports we can generate.
