octavia classic 1.9 sdi.

Featured Replies

i have recently bought a 1.9 sdi classic 141k on the clock when i took the car for a proper spin on the motorway i noticed when reaching 70 mph the revs are up to 3200rpm ish is this right feels to high like it needs  another gear also at that speed vibration kicks in through out the car( dash, steering wheel, peddles floor ) and it becomes really loud like a sort of bass reverb   any advice please

Vibration at 70mph would usually be wheel balancing is wrong.

3200rpm at 70 in a 5 speed diesel doesn't sound right.

I've never driven a SDi, but it does only have 68bhp, so needs short gearing to get moving at all. Having said that, 3_200rpm is only just over 20mph/1000 which does make me wonder if the clutch is starting to slip.

thanks for your help

Hi, I myself own 1.9 SDi Octavia 2002 (not a classic though but this does not matter). I got 130k on clock and my clutch is very near to be replaced but I do not have a slip. On 5th gear at 3000rpm I am nearing 80mph so I guess You have a slip.
