Fancy a new motorbike... Help!

Featured Replies

I have had both and the vtec did you give you a big kick when they came in but to be honest I would have just preferred linear power with decent fuelling.  As for the shims having to be done at great expense my local garage knew the guys at the Honda dealers and they said that although they did strip them down to check them they had never had to adjust on yet.  I think maybe they didn't even strip them down in the end but just charge for it.

  • I only glanced at the pics, didn't spot it had an alarm. Sell the gash seat to pay for the alarm removal, lol.

  • Can I play ? I must admit streety you do seem a bit of a classroom rider - you've read about it in a book. I'll get me coat lol

  • That's funny, lol. Just because I choose not to ride up to a thousand miles per week anymore, doesn't mean that I never did (or had the massive credit card bill to show for it, lol)

Cant say that about a Triumph, which is what puts me off. Ask ChrisWright, he uses his bike too.

I didn't buy my Street R because it was a Triumph. I bought it because it was the best middleweight bike on the market, by a country mile. The fact it's a a Triumph was the one thing that put me off buying it, but the build quality is as good as a current Honda (but not as good as a Yamaha).

But it would be a better bike without it, all it does is Rob the engine of midrange, for no benefit elsewhere. If I want a powerband I'll finish rebuild my TDR 250, lol. But probably not any time soon. Would be great to swing a leg over it again though, two strokes rock :)

But youre missing the point a little. Id buy a 2 stroke too, but i woulfnt expect it to do what the VFR does.

It doesnt rob the midrange of such. I can overtake most things, ride at a good old pace and not realise till ive got home that i havent actually used 16valves at all.

Theres a slight dip of power, then a big kick up the arse as it goes from 8 valves to 16 valves and off you go.

I mainly use it for fast overtakes, but if im really going for it i will keep it above vtec and keep it there through the gears.

Initially when you first ride it might not make sense, but you have to know how to ride it. Hovering around 7k on a bendy road gives you nothing but wondering why and upsetting the flow

How dya know about the build quality?

Nah. I disagree there, i dont find Yams are well built tbh. Somewhat behind Hondas.

My dads had alsorts over the years, currently a 12 plate 1200GSA, and says the build quality of a bmw these days isnt as it was, and that its lacking behind the hondas atm (maybe not the very newest ones. The new vfr isnt up to scratch).

he doesnt mess about, he doesnt ride all year round anymore, but hes frequently on 4k mile trips if not more. Hes currently 2,000 miles away, doesnt keep rhe bike as a garage queen.

There is no pint to the VTEC, that is the point. It isn't even actually VTEC (which is variable valve timing) it would be worthwhile if it was. Your perceived kick up the arse is only there because it has less midrange than the non VTEC VFR, not because it has more up top.

You're living in the past. Honda build quality has plummeted in recent years, while others (most notably Yamaha) have improved immensely. Just look at a CB1000 or post 2008 Fireblade that's seen bad weather or winter. These days Yamaha have the best build quality of the Japanese manufacturers. Even Suzuki are on a par with Honda now.

Its a gimmick, ive already said that.

but if you read the rest of what i said, and you ride it properly, it can work to your advantage and give abit of fun

Excuse me for asking. Have you ever ridden one for longer than a short nippy test ride?

It isn't. They're the two wheeled equivalent of Mercedes.

nipple, will you ever appreciate anything unless its a Street Triple mk1?

No, VFRs are too bland and middle aged to appeal to me personally. Good at what they do, but what they do isn't what I want from a bike.

I appreciate lots of bikes. My Bandit and TDR 250 are brilliant, for example. My Speed Triple's a bit rubbish though, lol.

It rides.

But thats not what you look for?

It works for thousands and thousands of people. Figures dont lie.

Just because its not what you want, doesnt mean its not what others want.

But the street triple 675r is the best bike in the world?

For what I want it for, yes it is.

Just because its not what you want, doesnt mean its not what others want.

I never said it is. Quite the opposite, as my post clearly says - "Good at what they do, but what they do isn't what I want from a bike".

Maybe others want different than a not even that quick naked bike that has a tendancy to rot away when it sees rain.

Imagine that.

Anyway. Im bored. So wonr be replying.

It rides.

All bikes ride, doesn't mean I want to ride them all. It has to make me want to ride it.

Put the handbags down you pair of girls.

We all know streety doesn't actually own a bike - he just looks at glossy pictures in magazines lol

Ahaha.

Im just being on a big wind up :D. Thought id see how long it takes till he self destructs ;):D

You rode a VFR though?

Must be awesome

Which is quite evident in my earlier posts, if you bother to read them properly. As for rotting away, as I've already said, it'll stand up to winter as well as any current Honda. All bikes rot away at the first sign of salt anyway. And as for not even quick, with evenly matched riders all a VFR will see of a a Street R on any road with corners is it's back end getting further and further away, lol.

He doesn't own a bike. He owns four of em, lol ;) Well, five if you ask the DVLA.

Ahaha.

You're the one getting wound up, just cos a couple of people pointed out that the VTEC is a pointless addition, lol.

I do giggle.

1. I dont bother to read them properly. I get bored. Honesty is my best policy.

2. Ive yet to be left by one

3. The fastest thing on a bike is a rider, and it helps if hes ever ridden his, rather than watched youtube videos.

But i really am done now. Ive had enough of a giggle.
