Quick question... Front number plate plinth

Featured Replies

I had some nob jockey reverse into my car last weekend and initially thought the only damage was some scuffs to the bumper, grill surround, a bent pressed plate and the plinth. However, upon closer inspection it appears there are one or two clips have been broken as I can push it away from the actual bumper.

Is the plinth part of the bumper and therefore the only fix is to replace the whole bumper? Or can they just replace that bit?

Whilst this shouldn't really be an issue as their insurance company will be footing the bill, eventually, I've had to mod the bumper to fit the FMIC.

That doesn't look like the one on my car, Steve, nor does it answer my question :p

The black bit on the bottom right of the above picture can be pressed and comes away from the actual bumper.

I know the whole plinth and lower grill are removed to create the widemouth, but I want to know if the body shop will replace just that bit or the whole bumper, or not at all due to the modification required to fit it with the FMIC in place.

if it was a non fault accident their insurance is responsible to put your car back to how it was prior get it in a body shop and let them pay new bumper or not (which would be nice) they are paying

Agreed, but they also have a duty to mitigate the costs and if they can carry out a local repair on the bumper itself and replace the plinth cheaper than replace the whole lot and a full respray of the bumper then they will do it .... So wondering if the plinth comes as part of the bumper, or come as a separate part?

Yep, 6Y0807287C possibly with B41 on the end of that number.  Item 11 in the parts list. Here.

As above, separate part that presses into bumper.

Could be the clips broke on plinth, or the holes they go threw on bumper.
