Driving abroad

Featured Replies

I'm driving to France shortly and have some questions.

The tolls:

Are they catered for RHD cars? Or is it a lean over job?

How do they work? Do I just pay at each one? Couple of euros a go?

Are they manned in case I have trouble?

Can I pay in advance?

General:

Where should I park my car to minimise it setting light to?

How do I best run over rioters?

Thankyou

They cater for RHD cars near Calais, the further inland you go, the rarer they become.

You pick up a ticket at the first toll then pay at the next, each exit off the routes has a toll for you to pay at.

Most are manned, but some are not, easiest way is to pay via credit card.

Dont think you can pay in advance (prob a lot of hassle)

Cost wise, it was approx

I'm going to Metz.

So I take a ticket? Do I have to put it in at each one? Or do I just drive on and pay when I leave the road?

In France, you pick up ticket as you enter motorway, and then pay as you leave motorway - the exit slip road has the pay booth on it somewhere

Both

generally you take a ticket at one end and pay when you come off but there are some exceptions - but it is usually obvious-

Dont worry about it the french roads ( and driver!!) are far more civilised than ours

We've been over there loads of times and had very few problems - we use cash for small tolls and visa for larger ones

For parking ... if you can get a large boat , park on it and anchor it in the middle of a large lake :)

For driving over rioters either take a 4x4 or get hold of some good strong bull bars on the front to avoid bodywork damage

some drivers like to tailgate but the easy answer is to let 'em go :)

enjoy.... wish i was going over there soon :(
