Orange EPC Light on dash

Featured Replies

It's been on a while and car is running ok. Runs short on oil every month and i put a litre into it.

Just recently i was told that brake lights are not working. Someone said one was and the other wasn't, now both aren't. I don't know if only one was working and one was.

As it stands, no brake lights :(

I went to look at F13  - Stop lights - 10A fuse

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/175843-fuse-panel-layout/

I held it up to the light and couldn't see a problem with the fuse, no break or crack. I swapped it over with F14 interior light and still no brake lights. Is the next step to be sure, buy a 10A fuse and 2 brake light bulbs ya reckon?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

If the fuse & bulbs are ok then it's the brake light switch that's failed (very common). Easy to fit & only £10ish from TPS or Main dealer.

Thanks pauldazzle will look into that. Might get a youtube video showing me how to do it. Brake light switch, thanks a mil

It's an easy job, but you must do it correctly as the switch is fit once, & if you screw it up you'll need to buy a new one. I can guide through it if need be.

Ok sourced a brake light switch for €12 ill be picking it up today :)

I swapped over the interior light fuse and no joy.

Checked the bulbs, there was a black cloud or scorch mark on both bulbs but filament wasn't broke :S when i replaced bulbs, no joy.

Hopefully the switch will sort everything

Ok pauldazzle i have the part. Guy in parts shop said it wont be like for like.

So whats next. Im a novice and i don't have a jack. Will i need a mechanic or will i be able to do this?

It's easy to do. The switch is located on a bracket at the top of the pedal. To remove the old switch rotate it anticlockwise, pull out & disconnect the connector plug. Reconnect the connector plug, & put the new switch into the holder & rotate clockwise until you hear it click, . All the this is done with the pedal in the up position.

Video of fitting the new green type switch on Golf mk4, which is the same as the Octy.

YOU sir, are an absolute legend! I owe you a pint at least. Not in an easy to get to place. But all done, orange EPC light gone and brake lights working when pedal pressed :D

How much would a mechanic have charged for that??
