Scratched glove box door

Featured Replies

Hi folks, my glove box door seems to have suffered some scratching from the buckles on the wife's handbag. They're not too deep so maybe there's how of repair?

Has anyone used any products they'd recommend for getting them out? Or does anyone have any general advice on fixing this?

Thanks,

JC

Mine has several scratches from the wife's handbags. Plastic trim cleaner from Halfords masks their appearance but complete removal seems impossible without replacing the door. The plastic Skoda uses for this (and other lower dash trims) is rather cheap, hard and scratchy.

Having suffered from this on my mk2 vrs I used a grey felt tip to dab over the lighter scratch with good effect.

I have had success on another car using some heat - I used a heat gun very carefully but a hair dryer would do and have it a rub with a cloth then. You might need to polish it up with a trim restorer then immediately afterwards as there's a risk of discolouration.

To he honest I would only do it if you were prepared to spend the money on a replacement if it didn't work.

Thanks guys, might start with the trim polish and see how I get on.

Depending how deep the scratch is Ive found rubbing at it carefully to remove the rough edges with a fingernail to do away with the worst of it, then use a light application of black boot polish (the old school stuff you are best lighting up to melt first) and then a little buff with a non-lint cloth does the job. Naturally only works with black plastics :-)

You do know that leather shoes and therefore Polish is available in colours other than black?

Some dare to wear grey :)

I found it reasonably effective when tarting up the mk2 for sale.
