AFH Cams

Featured Replies

Right guys your thoughts and experiences on cams for the AFH its build to a 1600, I've got a noisy tappet after the rebuild so im guna sling a few new ones in and as the cams have to come out I'm going to replace I'm thinking of using piper as I'm not going after mad power just looking to bring the power band down the revs a little and release a few more ponies. So what have you guys used and what do you rate?

You're probably better off looking at club polo or some such VW site. There's not really many people on here with an AFH. Just a thought.

I have posted on clubpolo just thought id ask here as well. Thanks bud.

I couldn't run to a set of cams from new blanks (like the Shrick or similar ones) when I built my AFH engine, so I got the standard ones reground by Piper.

With a worked head and bike throttle bodies the engine makes 160-odd BHP, which I was pretty pleased with.  It's quite peaky though - I'm not sure I would describe it as having brought the power band down the rev range (though to be fair, I never drove it with a standard AFH engine, so my only comparison is the old 8v motor).

cheers
