Pollen filter housing leak fix question

Featured Replies

Hi All,

re. resealing the pollen filter housing, when I remove it, is it best to reseal with silicone .....

1.after removing the cork gasket; or

2.reseal it and leave the cork gasket there if it looks ok.

I'm thinking maybe the former method might be best, but it's been a while since I last had it apart (to change pollen filter & seal the rubber bung), so as it's not in front of me dismantled I can't remember how thick that  cork gasket is & whether I can do wthout it.I gather from reading online the new housing, were I to buy one from Skoda, has no cork gasket at all.

Can anyone in the know advise please, much appreciated.

ps.passenger footwell just got flooded....I thought I had fixed this issue once already by sealing the bung in the corner but alas either this has come unsealed somehow, or morelike, it's coming in from somewhere else (pollen filter housing is usual suspect).

MINES SEALED WITH TIGER SEAL

thanks, did you remove the cork gasket before sealing?

I went ahead & resealed with silicone, I left the old gasket (which looked in good condition) on.

WORD OF WARNING.....don't overtighten the 2 plastic nuts!!  I obviously did, (the one closest the front wing) & the threaded post the nut tightens onto sheared off completely.

Hopefully the generous bead of silicone I applied will stick the pollen filter housing down permanently as well as seal out any water. If not I'm in trouble.

Time will tell....

not good i took the seal off btw
