Alternator

Recommended Posts

The sad fact is, the fuel could have caused the failure. I've heard of that happening on Fords (from someone who worked at the company that made the alternators that mysteriously failed shortly after services) and a similar failure on Rovers where engine oil would get dropped on the alternator when the filter was changed.

But as above, if you highly suspect that fuel got to the alternator, you MUST also check the cam belt as the diesel will start perishing it, and that will be a much more expensive failure for you.

I agree, check/replace  cam belt "tous de suite" If there is any sign of contamination inside the cam cover get it changed (and cleaned inside)

Well a good result at the dealers today. They have agreed to change the alternator under warranty. I'm going to call them in the morning and price up a cam belt change just for peace of mind.

I don't know why you thought you were saving , I've had a 20 k service for £209 the other day

The labour rate of the Indy I was using was less than half that of the main dealer.
