Any thoughts?

Never even heard of them, let alone have any thoughts!

I think a good compromise between performance and cost is the Toyo Proxes, about

I had them - "Federal Racing" IIRC - Were "ok" as a budget tyre, but I wouldn't use again. They have the same Toyo esque aggressive "V" tread pattern, but didn't perform quite as well - Not bad, but its a budget tyre after all.

What was the wear rate like?

I wouldn't bother skimping on the only thing keeping me in contact with the black stuff? Personally, I'd stick to big brand recommended tyres, especially now the weather is getting worse! :D

On my CTR I changed from the OEM Bridgestone potenza RE040 (which are terrible in the wet btw) for Hankook Ventus Sport K104. These are noticeably better in every respect than the pots imho and they cost me half as much as new pots would have been. I checked their rating on reifentest.com (sp?) before I bought and they came up better than pots on there too. So check out some reviews and try them if they look ok.

I had a set of Federal 205/55/17's on my Megane. They have done 9,500 miles now and are nowhere near half worn. The ones they replaced were Continental Sportcontact @

Have now had 6 sets of these on a Fabia, one of the best budget tyres, work very well with the Fabia setup. Pay about

Hi

I have never driven on Federal tyres, so cannot say how they perform. What I can tell you is that ATS Euromaster in Brentwood (Essex) have a by one get one free offer on Federal tyres at the moment. Might be worth checking your local branch.

Chris

Well I never got to judge the wear rate as the alloys were new on for Brunters 2004 and I put 3 of the 4 tyres beyond legal use in one trackday! Replaced with Toyos. However Alex above should know as they were his wheels beforehand. :)

Thanks for all the advice and links. Today I opted to go for the Federals. If im not happy with them then I will early next year change them. But I decided to give them a try at that price. I will put my comments on road holding etc later and obviously wear rate next year.
