text message scam?

I have received two or three attempts on my home phone of text messages from vodafone, supposedly. My home phone cannot receive texts, but the message on my answer phone says..to stop receiving texts from vodafone text 'stop' to this number.

Scam? or what? i havnt rang or text this number in case i get a huge bill. anyone else had this on their home phone?

Not sure if this one is a scam...but you can receive txt messages sent to your home phone! They will usually be read to you by a female robotic voice who will identify herself as being from BT. This is a free service offered by BT, the content of the message may be what is telling you to text STOP in which case I agree with dstev2000, you should call Vodafone.

You can opt out of receiving text messages on your home phone but that means no-one will be able to send you one. Some land line phones can receive text messages. It's only if the system fails to send it as a text message, because you don't have the right kind of phone, that it gets converted to voice. If you're easily amused, try getting the nice BT lady to swear.

As for the original problem, you could try registering with the TPS.
