Which part exactly is the "sock", i might try it. And does removing it decrease the effectiveness of the air filter at all?

If you remove the oem filter, the sock is the white material on the outside.

No idea if the filtration is affected though.

Removed the sock off mine and also modded the airbox slightly copied from another thread cut part of the inside away think its theres to deflect water or something but its been good since feels slightly more responsive or I press the pedal 1% harder who knows lol
