Fabia II - MDI retro fit

Featured Replies

High all,

Just bought a 3 year old Fabia Elegance and wondering if any one out there has retro-fitted the MDI connection option. Seems that it should be plug & play but more concerned about cutting a hole for 'pocket' to fit in. Can't find a part number for a panel which is for the MDI option, suppose I could just route the leads into the glovebox.

Had the car two weeks and the cam chain death rattle has just started, car built just after the fix date but engine just before:-(

Oh well, hopefully something positive on then MDI front.

I'm guessing it would be a pretty simple plug and play job to do?

Have you contacted a dealer and asked for the parts?

Ive got it routed into the glovebox.

Theres already a hole punched into rhe side of the glovebox to run the wire.

It did need coding in with VCDS though

I routed mine into the glove box, well, glove hole as mine is the simple spec. I just drilled a hole just big enough for the socket to go through. It was plug and play for me.

Tbh. Im not entirely happy with mine.

Might just swap the unit for a mirrorlink one or something at some stage.

Ah, coding. Hoped that would not be required. Anyone got any ideas on coding will be required?

Got to pick-up the bits up from the Post Office so will hopefully be able to try it out today.

The standard Swing head unit sounds good but out of the Stone Age as regards connectivity,

3 years old, I suppose things move on.

Was looking at upgrading the head unit but don't have the funds yet.

Still if i do have to buy a VCDS lead, my old one pre Canbus, that combined with

the cost of the parts would have got me an upgrade.

Somebody local off here might help you out with the coding. They did for me.

Whether it will need it or not, i guess you wont know till you try
