Small Drivers

Featured Replies

I am out and about quite a lot and have noticed (mainly women strangley enough) who don't appear to have their seat height adjusted correctly. Today I saw this small framed lady behind the wheel of a Nissan Micra and the way she was seated meant that she was having to look through the steering wheel to get a view of the road, now surely this is not only a danger to herself but to other road users as she couldn't possibly have a clear field of vision!!!. I have also seen several people, again mainly women, who sit so close to the steering wheel that if they were to have an accident it would almost certainly be fatal or at the very least cause severe facial injuries.

It seems obvious to me that people need to be educated in to the dangers of driving in such a way and to target car manufacturers to make it easier for small framed people to be able to get a comfortable and safe driving position, can't be that difficult can it?.

I work with a woman from Singapore who is 4ft and a bit. She has to look through the steering of her Punto to see the road ahead and sits close enough to the wheel to get a facelift should the airbag go off....

I touched on this in a previous thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t29234-short-drivers.html

It is ridiculous that people buy cars that are to big for them or that don't have height adjustment seats, steering. I thought you were supposed to be able to see to the end of the bonnet when you're seated in your car!!

They think that all they have to do is reach the pedals. Adjusting the seat/wheel is a 'man thing'

Give drivers the option to raise/lower their seat and some pillock is bound to drop it so low that they need a set of strategically placed mirrors just to see out the windscreen. Either that or they are too dumb to realise it's adjustable and just assume they can't see out properly because they are too small. You'd think small people would be the first to crank the seat right up but I suppose their arms might be too short to reach the lever.

What really annoys me is people who move their seat right up against the wheel like as if they are sailing a ship or something.

they should all be educated when learning to drive. No self respecting driving instructor should let them sit that close on a lesson.

Have you ever driven a Ford Capri?

i get this at work,i'm 5ft 7 on a good day,i get in our tanker and adjust the height of the seat, the steering wheel how far forward the seat is etc etc.

the regular driver then moans i've moved it,"you shouldn't be such a lanky freak" is usually the reply.

people have also commented on how tall i look when i'm driving, its because the seats jacked up,its not rocket science is it?

No but i've been in one. Might as well not be a seat. You couldn't get much lower without sitting on the floor.

Very true, but also, I've never met anyone who could see the end of the bonnet. In fact, I can't see the end of my Fabia and I'm not short. I do however know where it is
