Black Magic woes in 'Auto Express'

Featured Replies

In this week's Auto Express. A lady is replacing her black Fabia vRS due to the paint being 'eaten away' by bird droppings. Apparantly after 18 months she found that patches of paint on the bonnet had begun to lift and break away. A paint expert was called in who concluded that it was due to the bird droppings AND the black magic paint retaining more heat.

Comment: Why didnt she wash it off? Was the car waxed? I leave you to answer these for yourselves!!

What do you do if a bird poops on your car....

Don't take her out again

what a pile of ****

VERY surprised that any car company would be prepared to replace. Bird muck eats away at all paint if left on for long enough. The expert said it was caused by bird muck (not Skoda's fault) and the fact that black cars retain more heat (not Skoda's fault), so why is it being changed? That is going some in terms of customer satisfaction.

Dear Skoda,

I ran my car into a wall. An expert said that the damage was caused by the wall being made of hard stone and it was made worse by the fact that I couldn't see where I was going as I decided to drive home wearing a blind fold that night.

Can I have a replacement car please?

I would expect car paintwork to resist this, same goes that even though if hit by a stone traveling fast enough the paint chips but you would expect

minor impacts to not damage you paint,,

This is why I rejected my Leon Cupra with Imp blue paint as the paint was not 'tough' enough to withstand 'normal' road debris...

120+ chips in a month or so where as on My later Leon and Octy there would be one or two.......

cheers

"Ann was informed that the three-year paint warranty didn't cover this problem, and it would cost
Will she wash the red one?!![/size']

If she does she probably won't rinse it properly and it will turn PINK !!!!

That's pretty interesting ... my black magic Fabia was washed every 10k miles or 12 months (whichever came sooner ;)) by the nice people at Winchester Skoda and the paint was still well and truly stuck to the body, despite the birds circling the car park at work using it as target practice.

Funnily enough they haven't targetted the Mondeo yet, but I haven't decided if that's because they don't find red as offensive, or because they haven't realised I've changed cars!

Chris

It is pretty well known that bird droppings are acidic and will eat at the paint. It's just plain common sense to wash it off when you can.

I had this happen on the bonnet of my black magic vRS.

When it was one month old back in April 04, a bit of tree sap 'snot' landed on the bonnet and was left during the day while I was at work. Despite noticing it and washing it off in the evening, it ate into the top layer of the paint and left a mark. Nothing doing other than a respray at 500 quid or whatever, but I left it as I know the bonnet would (and has) get more damage from stones etc.

Car had the Simoniz Teflon coating wax polish on it at the time.

Don't park under that plum tree thing in the car park anymore....

Read all a about it....Skoda replaces Red Fabia because the paint has gone Pink. An expert said she should have got a Silver one. :P
