ACS Power Steering - Avoid

Featured Replies

Some of you guys may have read my thread about the crap customer service from SKoda re: replacing my steering rack...

So, bought a brand new rack and electric motor from ACS Power Steering. The part arrived today, and my wife signed for it.

I get home, find the box against the house wall, and turn it round to find the end sticking out the packaging!

So, I phone ACS, who ask to send me photos. Several hours pass, no response, so I phoned them. 'Steve' couldn't really see a problem with this situation, and could 'guarantee' it was all fine.

Then 'Steve' went off the line, and came back to tell me they'd actually sent it out like that as they didn't have a box to fit it!

He initially said it would be fine as he could 'guarantee' it was 100% ok, then he offered to send out another track rod end, then agreed he'd replace it altogether.

I'm reckon there's a very good chance they'll just change the end and send the same one back out!

Considering getting a refund rather than a replacement and going elsewhere.

I'm an easy going, reasonable guy, have I done something wrong in a past life?! I just want to buy a rack and have it replaced with decent customer service. Argghhh! Seriously, is it me?!

To save time and hassle I'd go with their suggestion of sending out a replacement track rod end.

Having worked for a motor factors in the past, steering racks were never packed great. It was always just a generic box with no padding inside and they just rattled about. The chance of the rack or the end being damaged is probably less than 1%, just think of the stress and knocks a rack goes through when fitted to a car. I would get them to give you there opinion in writing to give you reassurance and fit the rack.

Cheers, I'm maybe a bit paranoid with the rack I have failing.
