1.6 CR TDI Fuel Consumption

Featured Replies

I thought there was a similar topic somewhere where I could add my figures (share my experience), but can't seem to find it now.

I have a 2010 1.6 CR TDI owned from 1 yr old. Up until 3 months ago it was a daily driver for my wife doing short runs averaging 5k miles per year. The short runs caused it to end up in the garage with DPF issues.

Since I took it in July it is now my weekly commute covering 20 miles daily round trip on mixed roads in traffic (no motorways) getting up to no more than 45mph. It is the family car in the evenings and at the weekend doing mixed long and short runs. Despite not being fussed about the engine (coming from a 1.9TDI) I am delighted with the mpg. I have now filled it 4 times and it has returned average brim to brim figures of 55, 59, 61 and 58 mpg. I don't drive for economy and frequently use the throttle to keep the system cleared out.

Not bad at all.

My mother in law commutes around 80-90 miles a day. She used to have an Aygo 1.0, Yaris 1.33 (6 speed box) and now a Golf 1.6 TDI Cabriolet.

She drives with the roof down as much as she can and still averages 55mpg. Her previous cars she was getting high 40s at best and even worse on a few trips to Germany at higher speeds.

She's very happy with the 1.6. It's her first diesel and she enjoys the extra grunt compared to the little petrols she had.
