PD170 Camshaft position Sensor error

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I recently had my camshaft sensor replaced after the car developed hiccups and a scan of VCDS highlited an intermittant error. But the problem and error persists. Any ideas?

Cheers.

If the sensor is new then could it be a wiring issue either side of the sensor?

I had the wiring loom (injector loom?) replaced in Feb/March I guess it could then be the next bit of wiring.

Silver, you are always about the first to reply to my posts. I cant remember did you get to the bottom of your PD170 issues? Did you have DPF then misfire issues?

You name it I had it.

I had the DPF issue, which appeared immediately after the VOSA injector recall. Coincidence? Who knows but for me there are too many people on here who also suffered with various issues straight after the injectors were changed.

Mine never misfired but did cut out at exactly the same point most days on my daily commute (about 1 hour / 40 miles from home) at the same roundabout. Strange.

The dealer fiddled with the timing, or so they told me, made no difference other than to screw up the average MPG display in Maxidot. Went from accurate (approx. 50mpg) to wildly inaccurate (60+ MPG) despite my actual MPG (calculated manually after each fill-up) never changing. The dealer told me nothing they had touched would alter the computer. Who was I to argue?

Anyway, after the turbo failed, and then the replacement turbo that the dealer replaced it with failed after a week, together with the rising oil levels (diesel contamination from leaky injectors, the ones the dealer fitted) which no doubt buggered the turbo's I was forced to cut my losses. Skoda UK after several months and almost 12 weeks of been at the dealers finally told me there was nothing more they could do.

I caressed the car to a different Skoda main dealer a long way from home in-between limp home mode, the 'every 10 miles' DPF regens and whistling brand new turbo, part exchanged it for a Superb and ran for my life without ever looking back.

70,000 fault-free miles later in the CR140 Superb the only thing I miss about the bloody PD170 vRS was the Race Blue paint!

I admire your patience. I was in a similar place to you a few years ago, determined I'd fix the car. DM Keith in York and Skoda UK drained out every last ounce of love I had for the car.

Good luck my friend!

P.S it is still in my signature picture hiding behind the Scout, I did want to like the car, it was supposed to be a keeper, but alas it wasn't to be. Interestingly the PD140 (with DPF) in the Scout has been bullet proof. There was seriously something amiss with the PD170 and its DPF.

Am I right in thinking you are now DPF'less? The PD170 should be a cracker now, it's a real shame you are still suffering from these annoying niggles.

I just see it as a machine, it cant be jinxed it must have a fault and that fault can be repaired. Mine was fine till a Skoda dealer pointed out I had sludge in the sump, had the engine reconned and its never been right since, it was fine briefly after the recon it went like a rocket, after running it in of course, and it was smooth as silk. Now it feels a bit laboured missfires or feels lumpy between 1 and 2 k revs, I have had it de-DPFfed which has made big improvements but this missfire is a pain. Wasnt there before, doesnt always do it, but it happens now and then. And its so random I cant say its an injector or a seal or the turbo or anything. The only clue I have is the cam shaft sensor error, but thats been replaced and so has the injector loom. I dont care if it costs me another few k (I know the car isnt worth it) but I just want the flipping thing fixed. If it was the non PD I would do it myself, but there isnt enough space to hide a fag paper let alone fiddle with the engine in there. I could fix the non PD without even looking but the workings of the PD170 is like a black art as far as Im concerned!
