Pre-FL Maxidot - Bulb Failure

Featured Replies

Should the specific bulb that's failed show up on the maxidot on a pre-fl Octavia?

I ask as I had the bulb warning come up on my way into work this morning, but under car status, nothing was listed. All I got was the light in the rev counter.

Is this a facelift only feature?

This is a 2005 with factory fit maxidot.

I seem to remember having a bulb out a few months ago (maybe longer now) and I'm almost certain it came up with a warning and told me which bulb. Then the top of the maxidot showed the bulb out symbol in orange.

Hmm, interesting.

Maybe it's because it was one of my HIDs, and I think I've turned off cold lamp diagnosis on dipped beam with VCDS.

Try pulling out on of the rear light bulbs and see what happens. That's the bulb that went last time for me. One of rear side lights.

Also you've just reminded me that I was going to buy a 2nd set of HID lights should I ever need a spare and leave them in the boot.

My 2007 pre-FL had Maxidot and it definitely told me which bulb had failed.

Sounds like your HID's and the lack of cold start diagnostics is interfering with the system.

Well,  what can man find out about his car. So, seems like it's possible to find out the exact bulb that has failed in my FL Octavia? After seeing a bulb warning I usually simply checked all lights until I found the one (actually it isn't that hard job to do).

By the way, that light warning ain't always correct. Like a month ago I had it and I wasn't able to find any bad bulb. It disappeared after a day.

Only if you have maxidot yes.

It's odd for sure. It was the OS dipped beam that failed to light. Turning it off and back on again it worked fine.

It's a londoncolour non canbus kit that I've got fitted.I coded it by ticking xenons without shutters and unticking cold diagnostics on dipped beam.

I have a spare HID bulb so if it fails, I'll swap it out.

Londoncolour are good with honouring the warranty if it's the ballast.

Well it's behaved itself today.

I'll keep an eye on it
