Tracking / Alignment / Geometry

Featured Replies

To cut a long story short .....

Went in to my local dealer at 8,000 miles because of uneven wear on the front tyres, got my tracking reset.

Kwik Fit today (12,000 miles) got a new tyre put on, they checked the tracking and said the back was out. They did have the correct vRS figures.

Went to different Skoda dealer and they offered me a "full geometry check" for

Said that the axle is only under warranty until first service / 10,000 miles.

Exsqueeze me??

Surely they are having a laugh ?

3 year 60000 mile warranty....except for the bits we don't fancy covering

Methinks someone is extracting the urine here.

Agree with Geoff , you DO NOT want to be paying for a new axle at 12,000 miles ..................go back to the dealer you bought the car from and tell them to get it sorted ..................failing that a phone call to LadyLoki at customer services .

Or perhaps this particular dealer thinks that axles are "consumables" along with tyres & wiper blades

Go back, be reasonable with them and you might get somewhere.

If not, scream blue murder at them, then contact our friendly local CS rep (LadyLoki to you and i ;) ) and let her, or one of her cohorts sort it out.

I refuse to believe this isnt a valid warranty claim.

Thanks for the replies. The tracking / alignment may well be okay, could be just Kwik Fit getting it wrong. But I'll go back to my original dealer (where the car was from) and get them to check it out. IF the axle is the problem I should imagine it's covered by the warranty too ....

I would seriously hope that it is covered. Have a check through the warranty, I'm fairly sure there is no exclusion on rear axles. Having said that there may be as, unfortunately, things do get bent with miles.

Just done a search, in some ways they are right about adjustability. Total toe and camber cannot be adjusted on the Octavia, however, the individual toe-in specifications can be centred by altering the position of the bearing brackets. Also, the variation in the direction of running can be centred by altering the position of the rear axle beam. Taken from this thread

Interesting. It appears that I am not the only one with front tyres wearing out rather early.

I have also had a problem with the alignment on my Octavia Tdi. The local dealer (Jewson's, Oxford) tried to do the tracking, but the fronts wore out in 4k miles. I took it back several times and they rechecked, saying it was all OK. I then took it to a tyre and exhaust centre where I knew they had the latest digital equipment for tracking and it was way out (the Skoda dealer's tracking equipment was out of date to say the least). They would not accept responsibility for the error, despite me showing them the printout from the specialist. Needless to say, I will not be going back.

Since having the tracking reset by the specialist, the tyres are hardly worn after 20k miles.

I suggest you find a local specialist tyre place, where you know the quality of the equipment. The specialist I am now using have their equipment recalibrated every 3 months to make sure it is working correctly.

Greg, if I remember rightly did you buy your car from Dean's? If so ring up and ask to speak with Brian in the service dept. I must admit I found them very helpful recently especially after my N75 valve troubles that were quickly sorted under warranty....

Interesting I couldn't get the alignment checked or tracking unless I agreed to pay the dealer
