Engine management warning light on

Featured Replies

Morning all!

Got a 51 plate Octy VRS, only mod is Blue Flame downpipe and exhaust.

This morning went to fill up, and before I had got halfway there, the 'engine electrical testing' warning light started flashing, and the car started to drive like a bag of spanners - really low power and juddering low down in the rev range.

Anyone had these symptoms before? I've managed to get it booked in at my nearest dealers, but not until next wednesday

Sounds to me like a coilpack has failed. Is there a smell of unburnt fuel from the exhaust? And have you had the coilkpacks replaced under warranty? If not they should still be replaced FOC if they are the old troublesome version.

PS - You shouldn't drive your car in ths condition becuase you could damage the cat. Changing a coilpack is a DIY job. But if you have breakdown cover - eg AA - they could well fix the problem for you.

Yep, there is an unburnt fuel smell as well.

Not sure if hte coil packs have been done - I bought the car second hand in January from a main dealer - I suppose they would know?

I'm pretty sure I was given a 1 year warrenty and 1 year AA cover when I boughtt he car, so hopefully that should cover me.

Would the AA be able to diagnose and fix that kind of problem? The car is at home now and I won't be driving it until it goes to the garage - I don't have a cAT anymore though!

I believe so. It should be very quick to identify a faulty coilpack using plug-in diagnostic equipment. I have heard that their patrol vans normally carry spare coilpacks, although you would have to pay for the part (circa

All sorted friday by the AA!

Was a coil pack gone. Interestingly, the AA guy checked and told me that the VAG group have confirmed that when a coil pack goes faulty, they will exchange for 4 of the new ones.

However, when he went to my local Skoda main dealer, they refused to give him more than 1, and only had 2 in stock anyway! He warned me that they may have recorded the new coil pack against my registration as a complete change, and therefore refuse to change the other 3 under warranty - any ideas on whether they can do that?

Skoda UK have issued a bulletin instructing to change any coil packs of the prefix < H for the latter J, K or L coil packs free of charge regardless of age and mileage.

WHEN MY CARS COIL PACK PACKED-IN THE RECOVERY GUY REPLACED IT FOC

(whick i thought was very decent of him) BUT TOLD ME TO GO TOO DEALER IN

BROXBURN, I DID THEY CHANGED ALL FOUR NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

SO I WOULD QUESTION THE DEALER JUST IN-CASE ANOTHER ONE GOES AND THE

REPLACEMENT IS CHARGED TO YOU.

Fair enough, I'll contact the dealers and get it sorted.

Thanks
