5 speed manual gearbox issues?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, is anyone aware of any common issues with 5 speed manual gearboxes, mines is 2012, 110k on the clock. 1.6 TDi 5 speed box

Had it in the garage today for a service and suspected wheel bearing but turns out the noise is coming from the box around the diff area my mechanic has advised, I have no issues other than a slight drone like a wheel bearing. No problems selecting, no jumping out of gear, nothing. Oil is still perfect.

Anyone?

G

No but the DMF has it's issues.

125k on mine.

no, never had or heard of any. as already said, could be dmf or clutch problem at this mileage

Sounds v similar to my noisy gearbox post (2007 1.9tdi, 104k miles) last month. I also thought the drone was a wheelbearing but have been told its the gearbox.

My local garage has changed gearbox oil but its had no impact.

They've now estimated c. £700 to take out gearbox, inspect & refit it afterwards but this would obviously be on top of the cost of whatever they actually find wrong with it when they take it out. Sounds a bit steep to me. I'm still trying to decide what to do....

I was close to £700 including new clutch, however its developed the exact same noise again in 4th gear! Bloody cars! So it'll be a warranty job on the box, 6 month warranty

G, give Skippy41 a PM, or find him in the Superb 2 section. He runs a 1.9 5 speed Superb as a taxi in the Scottish Borders, and I know that he has had issues with a whining diff and/or gearbox in his car.

Also be aware that a solid flywheel conversion is now the Skoda preferred repair on the 1.6 as well as the 1.9 (5 speed box)

Mike

Mike, thanks.

The flywheel was a SMF when the garage changed the clutch, however it's got a full Skoda history and that hasn't been noted on any service records what so ever, SUK even confirmed the service record over the phone before I bought it and again no sign of any clutch or flywheel on warranty

I'll drop skippy a PM
