No idea on the mess it leaves, but when I was talking to Skoda about getting my spoiler resprayed they said it would be the whole lot due to the "damage" when removing it.

mask it? spray it while its on the car?

I believe it's stuck-on so it's removal is gonna damage the immediate surrounding area.

Just give it a good preparation, sanding etc, mask off, have a stool/chair handy and spray it yourself.

 

If spraying with same colour, a twin pack aerosol 400ml paint with a clear laquer should be more than enough to do the job..
