Hello everyone. I have a Scoda Fabia 2005 and i need your help. I am thinking of removing the front ashtray and replacing it with a cupholder. Can you enlighten me if that can be done?

The one in front of the gearstick?  Once the insert is out there are two small screws, but the surround is part of the gearknob surround, so you are basically a little scuppered trying to fiddle with that.  There are single DIN cupholder options for below the radio.

It can be done with a genuine Skoda part. I bought one to fit, and fitted it easily. The problem is, it will only take 'short' things like standard size coke cans because the heater control panel is too close above it to allow taller drinks to fit.

Yes it is possible, there's a genuine part number for the cup holder.

It's only really any good for a soda can size though.
