Phonebox + Premium WLAN option problem

Featured Replies

If anyone is ordering their new Superb with these two options they may be told that it is not possible, apparantley there is a bug in the ordering system that will not allow you to do this.

But unlike the brochure and the dealers system the online configurator combines these two options into one and this is the way to order them.

You need to use order code GPT3PT3

Hope this is of help as I had to discover this for myself, the dealer was telling me I would have to make a choice of one or the other!

When checking the PDI how do you ensure both WLAN and phonebox has been installed?

I assume for WLAN the existence of the SIM card slot in the glove box is enough?

How do you check if phonebox has been installed?

I think I answered my own question by looking at the owners manual page 94. If a phonebox is fitted the storage compartment in the front centre console has a slightly raised tray on the left with a picture of a mobile phone on it. Otherwise the tray curves down a bit and doesn't have the phone picture.

Maybe you can help. What's the difference between this and the integrated wifi that the Columbus comes with as standard?

Columbus supports provision of a WIFI hotspot for devices to connect to it. It ALSO supports connecting itself to the internet and essentially bridging one connection to the other.

That outbound internet connection can either be:

LTE (using a sim card in the unit in the glove box)

WIFI - connection to another wireless network e.g. a Vodafone WIFI dongle or similar, or a mobile phone that's been setup to be a personal hotspot.

rSAP - via a bluetooth connection to a mobile phone that is able to access the internet.

I am NOT sure whether WIFI and rSAP can be achieved in abscence of "Premium WLAN". Neither of them would need the SIM slot, so I am hopeful they would be possible.

If you have a SIM, it can be used to make calls, so pairing another phone by bluetooth would not be necessary and you would have a true "carphone".

Phonebox, if installed, will have a picture of a phone in the surface of the compartment.

You would also be able to check for the option code for phonebox being listed in the list of options fitted to the vehicle via the front of the service manual or the sticker in the boot, although it's not a 100% guarantee.

Thanks!

The 'hidden' dealers text in the PDF brochure next to the LAN/LTE option states "Order PT3 if Phone box option is also required".

So [a] the dealer isn't picking up on this

and  if Škoda UK are combining the two options into one (like they do with the "accessory" iPad holder and Adaptor) then it's yet another error in the brochure.

rSAP is not supported by iPhone for what that's worth
