New here, after a mk 2 vrs

Featured Replies

Morning all, I'm new here.

We've decided to swop our 06 impreza for 2 cars. So we have bought an e55 estate for long trips and we're after a run around and a vrs fits the bill.

I've been reading about oil consumption so unless there's been a dealer consumption test is are there any way of checking for issues?

Any other issues?

We might consider a remap to 210 - I can't see many threads about this which surprises me. Has anyone done it and who is recommended?

In the unlikely event anyone fancies a stock 06 wrx wagon 65k and has a 2011 on vrs (sorry not white or green I've been informed - I'm not driving it most of the time) drop me a line

Cheers

David

Welcome to the forum.

What is the budget you want to spend?

there are about 2,900 Mk2 vRS Twinchargers in the UK of different flavours.

About 700 are Estates.

You are as well to look up at the top of the page at the pinned post. Looks like you have done that,

& read down the pages.

There are plenty good Mk2 vRS Twinchargers around, you just need to know what you are looking for, checking and asking of the seller.

*Get the Service Record & Warranty Record from Skoda UK or a Skoda Dealership.

Having had a new Engine can be a good thing, but not always.*

Ask on here as well if looking at a particular car, someone might know it or about it.

You might find a Member here that traded in a good car that is in a Dealers for sale.

eg,

of many many similar posts in this section.

Thanks Freedom. Budget 9k or less ideally, not the estate.

I'll have a read of the link, thanks.

There's a black one coming into the citroen dealer in southampton as a px. Anyone know it?

Does it have a cam belt or chain and what are the service intervals?

Thanks

David

'Freedom'  just means you pay the Briskoda membership.

?

What Age and miles is the Black vRS?

If the miles are low enough and the Servicing up to date, you can buy a Skoda Extended Warranty.

You want to be sure what the car has had in Servicing that can be confirmed, and what if any warranty work,

so as soon as you have a Registration No, check with Skoda UK Customer Services and see what their records show.

If it is a CAVE engine car @ £9,000 then it can of had a RE-map which might mean a Valid Warranty is an Issue,

so if you want a Warranty & at £9,000 i would, you need to check if it has been Mapped, as far as you can check.

If you intend Mapping it anyway, then no problem,

but first be sure the car you buy is a good one.

Plenty Remapping to Stage 1 threads and TMC or Blue Spark Tuning Box threads in this Section.

Remaps on CAVE cars other than on 1 CTHE,

And Tuning Boxes on CAVE & CTHE Engines.

'Freeborn Citroen'

have a Black Under 38,000 mile 11 plate vRS so a CAVE Engine advertised at £8,000. (no picture yet.)

?

Is this it.?

PS

I see they have  'cloth - suede interior',

this will be Cloth Seats and Leather Steering wheel and gearchange surround i take it unless customised.

A 2011 CAVE, needs to have had if following the Service Schedule / Guidelines,

Services, Minor, Major, Minor,  then Major at 4 years / 40,000 miles.

Spark Plugs Changed already, or change now.

Brake Fluid Changed already, and again each 2 years.

Air Filter changed or change now. (checked at least)

Pollen filter might have been changed twice already.

The Service Campaign on the DSG (DQ200) since May 2014 might have been required and done,

if not Skoda will do free now.

Recommended,

But 'only' after you are sure all is good while still under the Dealerships Used Car Warranty.

REVO not Recommended for the Remap,

But reading this is.

Many thanks George.

You found the correct car. The reg no is on the garage website so I'll do a bit of digging there.

I've seen a couple with nav but I imagine a £100 tomtom will work just as well. I'll look for interior options too then.

Appreciate your ihelp

Regards

David

There is a Member here from Wiltshire that has plenty experience of Mk2 having had several including engines replaced.

Currently in the family a newer CTHE one in Black.

I will give him a PM and let him know about this post.

Maybe he can swing by and check out the car, or at least speak with you.

Enjoy the Test Drive.

If the car has in 95 Ron it might go better once it has 99 Ron in,

& the DSG learns, so Test Drives are best to be longer, and get to know the car.

It might be over 5 miles before the Oil is near Operating Temp, and then it is really good to go.

Put the Maxidot to 'Oil Temp', and see how long it takes to get to 50*oC Indicated, then to 80*oC indicated.

I drove one here in Swindon a week back and was pleasantly surprised by it. DSG is a tad better than the e55 but then its a bit newer.

This engine issue is nearly as bad as the IMS on a 996. I doubt we'd look at one as new as the 1CTHE engines so CAVE it would be.

This black one would come with a warranty but I'd want to know who covers it and what the limit is.

More digging required.

one day, or one week is enough to 'Try it out' and see if it is a good one.

In 3 Months if that is all the Warranty is,

you can fully check it out and if a Wrong one they will need to take it back,

because as hard as they try to repair one, it would be a new engine required & £4,000 or so.

Tell the Salesperson now about the 'known problems & history' of them.  & tell him /her to check if they doubt it.

(he / she will want to know if that is how bad they are, why do you want one, but then more are good than are bad.)

Then if there is a Issue with the car they sell you and say 'it was a known problem & the Warranty does not cover it'

You ask them why they sold it then knowing that,

They are putting a Warranty on, and they are saying we believe this to be of merchantable quality and fit for purpose.

they sell used cars day in day out, so they should know them, sadly even VWG Main dealers are often clueless.

So nothing wrong with a Used CAVE from a Dealer or a Private Seller.

Maybe pay £350 & buy a Skoda Used Car Warranty and have cover for 12 months.

If all is good just Remap and forego the Warranty if you want.

A TMC Tuning Box gives you 205 BHP+.

PS.

Right, to bring up the Oil Issue.

When you first see the car just open the bonnet before it is started up, and see where the Oil is on the Dip Stick.

After the test run, wait 4-5 minutes and dip it again.

George,

Thanks for your input but I'm afraid this is going to be shortlived.

Having read all the oil consumption issues and found similar stories on VW forums I'm afraid I'm out.

Life's too short to be bothering with a known issue and I have no interest in troubling my solicitor to battle with a warranty company.

It may be that my car would be fine but there would always be that nagging doubt and as my wife and son will be the main user I can't be doing with that.

I've avoided one situation like this by buying a different model in that case but I think it will be a different make altogether in this case.

Thanks again

I can't fault you. Cars are for enjoyment. Be it new or second hand. If I had researched more thoroughly before buying one, a few weeks ago. Then I would definitely have not bought it. It uses oil, its got a recall on it and there is corrosion on the tailgate. Can't wait to get rid.

Tell us about the corrosion, where is it.?

Midlifecrisis had on his which was probably damage not repaired properly,

and some get rust where the person replacing the badge that gets corroded is being swapped and chips the paint.

But corrosion on the boot is not common.

Hi goneoffski. The corrosion is on the tailgate around the edges of both number plate lights. It's not the first time. In July last year I had to go down the 12yr warranty route with VW due to corrosion on the front wing, of a 7yo gti. I ended up with two new wings at no charge. But Initially they wanted 70%.

It is now looking like I'm going to have to go down the same route with skoda.

I will be doing a thread shortly with photo's to see the outcome. That's as long as I don't have another wobble and get rid as suggested in the previous post lol:-\

Just another reason to buy new on PCP, then it's their problem and often it costs less in the end. For those with VAG diesels on PCP, with a guaranteed residual value there is no problem for them.
