Whistling noise...

Featured Replies

Hi all, long time reader, first post!

Weird "fault" developed on my Octavia VRS (06, Petrol) yesterday, wonder if anyone has any experience/knowledge of a similar issue.

  • "Whistling" noise present after warming up (approx 5 miles+)
  • Very audible under 30MPH.
  • Doesn't change volume or pitch with revs.
  • Happens with AC on or off.
  • Present when stationery.
  • Happens in or out of gear, clutch in or out.
  • Appears to be coming from passenger side, low down on engine.
  • When i turn ignition off, it continues for a few seconds then "winds down"

Aside from this noise car is running fine, still pulls well and has no obvious other symptoms.

Took in into a garage (non VW group) today, they spent an hour examining it and were none the wiser :/

Thanks for any thoughts/opinions.

Been to two independent garages now and none the wiser :(

Best guess seems to be secondary air pump, but he really wasn't sure, bit expensive to start 'guessing'

My local skoda garage will charge £70 to investigate, worth trying?

Here's a video of the noise,

Any thoughts or opinions greatfully appreciated, at my wits end :(

Fixed :)

Took it to my local Skoda garage (Horton Lincoln) who diagnosed it as the 'pressure regulating valve'

Replaced it for £104 very good service, very impressed.

Another local garage 'guessed' it was the secondary pump and quoted nearly £400 to fit....

Hi that would be a bad pcv valve. This is one of the ways they go bad. Glad you have it fixed. The second 'guess' could have worked out abit expensive!!

Was just about to say it sounds like PCV (Postive Crankcase Ventilation) valve.  Only know because I was googling how to diagnose faults with them and came across a VW vid where it was whining louder than a spoiled brat.

Just listened, and yes, definitely a bad PCV!
