P0170

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I own a 1.4 MPI 2003 Fabia.

It showed the Check Engine light and, when scanned it I received the P0170 code.

It returned few days after clearing it.

Read a bit about it but I'm not sure I understood everything.

I do want to point 2 things:

The 1st - About 2 months ago I returned after a holiday. I left my car with my parents. My father which is a... thorough person, checked things just before my return.

A week or 2 later I checked something under the hood and noticed engine oil all around. Looked closer and saw that the stick used to check oil level is inserted through the cover but not into the pipe that goes to the engine. I Didn't loose too much but the oil reached some connectors, 1 of the water level I think and 1 behind the engine.

The 2nd - Checked the coolant and, noticed I have some mud(!?) there. Just a bit but dark mud...

First, I would like to know how safe it is to continue driving. Will the car stop in a middle of a trip or, will it cause a bigger problems?

The car works fine, well, as far as my wife says (I drove a bit as well and didn't feel anything strange).

Where should I look and what should I do?

Is there a link between the coolant and the error code?

Is it the oil that jumped around?

Read something about O2 sensor but didn't understand well...

Thanks a lot,

enjoy the rest of the week,

Uri.

P0170 is a generic OBD code relating to fuel trim.

The coolant issue is unlikely to be related to the DTC.

The oil leak will be from the open dipstick tube, since you've replaced the dipstick correctly then all you need to do is clean up the spillage, oil will not affect the electrical connections like water does.

The car is perfectly safe to use, suggest you get the fault codes scanned with a proper diagnostic system like VCDS as this will provide more useful information.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I'll check again with a proper scanner.

Cheers.
