Revs dropping when flooring it in 4th/5th

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Bit of a weird one and I was hoping someone can shed some light onto this issue for me. First of all the car is mapped. If I floor it in 4th and hit the accelerator when the revs are around 2k the revs go up to 3k, then dip back down to 2k then seemto hover around 2.5k for a few milliseconds then carry on increasing. The speed still increases and power still seems to be there.

Mileage is around 82k, clutch hasn't been changed I don't think.

Your clutch is slipping by the sounds of it.

Perhaps an aggressive map is partly to blame...

I'd say clutch slip too.

Cheers for reply guys. My only question, if the clutch was slipping.. would the speed still increase?

Tar

The road speed would still increase, just not as much as it would if the clutch were not slipping.

basically...

the engine is turning at X ammount of revs.

the gearbox is turning at the same ammount.

when the clutch is slipping they turn at different speeds so...

you will accelerate hard and the turbo will come in, revs will go up but then speed stays the same because the clutch cant coupe with the extra force going through it.

Definitely clutch, it'll get worse until it becomes undriveable.

Thanks all, appreciated. I have to admit, it doesn't always happen. Today, I haven't seen it do it at all. Is that a common thing with the clutch too?

Cheers

Normal remapped yes.

The slipping you are experiencing is the normal early stage for a failing clutch.

The more you let it slip, the quicker the remaining clutch life will be used up to the point you can't easily drive to your chosen garage or clutch centre.
