Does Bolero have a display brightness control

Featured Replies

I have scoured the manual but cannot find if there is a way to reduce the brightness of the Bolero display and find it a bit bright.

It does.

IIRC it's under the display section when you press the Settings button on the stereo?

Yes. Depends on whether the headlights are on or off.

Dipped beam on = lower brightness (during the night)

Dipped beam off = higher brightness (during the day)

Thanks, but mines changes at anytime. is there an auto sensor somewhere on the mkiii? it does seem to be close to when the sun comes out or when it gets cloudy.

cheers

If you have a mirror with automatic dimming than there is a light sensor on the front and on the back of it. It regulates the brightness of the whole dashboard including the Infotainment screen & switching the main lights on/off when in auto position.

Not exactly.

If you have Auto Lights only (which comes with back-mirror auto dimming) and NO rain detector, then your light sensor is located on the dashboard just below the front windshield.

If you have Auto Lights (with backmirror auto dimming) AND rain detector, then light sensor is located in the back mirror.

thanks. i have neither auto lights or auto rain detector. and mine seems to dim and brighten as i drive, i assume when the sun gets brighter. It seems pretty consistent so i assume there is a light sensor somewhere, even on car with no auto light/auto rain. etc.

I could do with finding the sensor, as it's pretty sesitive!

cheers

On the wife Fabia MKIII SE-L you can alter the brightness of the Instrument display via the Car settings on the Radio. It's under " Lights "

Yes, i did that. and it works, but it still changes after that based on outside light conditions.

So it might be possible to activate auto lights via VCDS. Search for light sensor under windshield, between air vents on the dashboard.

I personally would prefer it if it didn't automatically adjust the brightness at all.. it should be down to the driver and nothing else.

Skoda's crap logic.. if it goes dark, make the dash dimmer.. if it goes bright make it brighter.. yeah, apart from when you travel through the Mersey tunnel and the lgihts on the dash go out due to the stupid logic and you can't see what speed you are doing.. feckin' great idea that is Skoda!!! :wall:

Turn the headlamps on then :-P

no need if there's lights in the tunnel.. but still the dash fades to black.. and it's still a crap system.

Hmmm - have to agree with vc-10, as the general, standard recommendations are to turn headlights on, on approach to tunnels, AA (http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/safety/tunnel-safety.html) , Tyne Tees Tunnel (http://www.tt2.co.uk/safe-driving-in-the-tyne-tunnels.html), and a few other sources. Can't find the exact place in the UK Highway Code - but it is in the DVSA Theory Test, to turn on dip headlights on approach to tunnels.

Unless - is the Mersey tunnel different?

Either way, I'm all for making our cars more visible.

I know some mightn't agree.

Found the sensor.

My Fabia iii doesn't have auto lights, and doesn't have auto rain sensor.

The sensor which controls the brightness on the Bolero is just below the rev counter. There is a small round mark. Importantly it overrides whatever setting you have in the screen brightness option.

I just tested it and it reacts exactly as you would expect.

It's a bit of a pain since the brightness changes on the Bolero can be quite extreme. I was hoping the Brightness setting in the options would be enough but they simply get overridden by the sensor.

Maybe there is a VCDS tweak to turn off auto brightness? since you cant cover the sensor.

The logic is sound and widely used throughout the industry. I do hope you're not one of the people who don't use lights in rain etc, because you can see alright.

I don't care if the industry uses it, the logic is still crap.. let drivers be in control - not computers.. and what I do in the rain is my own business.. and I'd prefer it if people wouldn't jump to any conclusions about me thanks..
