Dual Mass Flywheel 1.4TDi 105
skodaTDI replied to skodaTDI's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk III (2014-2021)
This issue is resolved and thread can be closed down - 3 piece clutch kit and DMF fitted by a local clutch specialist with a 2 year guarantee for £579+VAT. -
could have, should have.. I was told the coding has to happen otherwise the dash will display an alert all the time when you're driving.
-
It's not what I think - it's what I'm being told.. don't shoot the messenger. I pesonally think they fit DMFs knowingly so they can fail in less than 5 years time and charge the customer a fortune for a new one.. I was quoted £698.75 for a DMF from Skoda Bolton only last week - so go and figure.. and that's just the flywheel without fitting.
-
Is GeneralPurpose incorrect then? The mechanic who looked at my flywheel on my Fabia said the same thing.. if a solid mass flywheel is to be used the new part needs to coding into the ECU otherwise what has been said above is likely to happen in the near future..
-
they should do, driving with an SMF that's been put in a car designed for a DMF will eventually rip the gearbox to pieces
-
But did your garage do an engine recode when installing the solid mass flywheel?
-
Does anyone know if there was ever a recall for the DMF issue on TDi Fabias? If not, are they repairable? I'm getting a lot of noise when lifting the clutch and when depressing it.. it is slowly getting worse. I've had it looked at by a local garage (see video) and you can see the play in it shown when he videoed it - almost as if whatever holds the flywheel in place - presumably some sort of retention spring has now worn away somewhat. Now he said he couldn't get a DMF replacement as no-one stocks it (I was a little dubious about that - but couldn't argue at the time for not knowing 100%). He said he could convert it to a solid flywheel, but then the engine will need a recode, which he couldn't do - only Skoda could do. Now, this is where it gets really bitchy. The Skoda dealer where I bought the car said "we can't guarantee the mechanics quality of work, so we wouldn't recode it if he did it." Which is their way of saying we want to charge you a fortune for the work rather than a cheaper rate that he will do it. There is no goodwill gesture as the car is now older than 5 years old and out of warranty. Although the noise from the clutch did start under warranty, but they said at the time "it's normal" and "there's nothing wrong". Both of which I took for a bit of fobbed off response. Given the water pump issues I had previously, I've lost all faith and trust in Skoda and this is my last Skoda I will ever own. What I am asking though, has anyone had theirs repaired and if so by who, how much etc.? I was hesitant on the switching to a solid - given it would probably rip the gearbox to pieces without the recode. Does anyone on here know anyone who could do the recode if I got my local garage to switch it? Any help appreciated.. I am North West England based, so looking for someone within a decent radius of where I am. Thanks. FabiaClutchIssue.mp4

If the water temp has gone beyond 90ºC then you have a water pump issue and don't let them palm you off with the 'nothing wrong' speech.. low revving will help stop the water pump temp climbing, but if you don't get it fixed you'll just end up damaging the car.. you can read all about my issues in the pinned thread at the top of the forum as mentioned.. I am on my 3rd water pump.. so you've been warned! Just to note, it's only diesel Fabias and Rapids with this issue - although I have known someone with a vRS Octavia having a similar pump issue.

what's with the cut-out in the spoiler? and I see the rear-camera hasn't been moved from the handle position.. utterly stupid.. I don't like the rear lights any more.. the black outline is better on the current Mk3.. this revision makes them look naff.. -
Skoda Press Release Fabia Facelift official Details
skodaTDI replied to SurreyJohn's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk III (2014-2021)
I've already got a diesel engine in my Mk3.. and the DPF regen kills the fuel econony, which in my opinion makes it a completely pointless contraption.. hence why I mentioned poke, a DPF on a smaller engine would be even worse than the 105 TDI.. but if there's no active regen cycle on a PPF/GPF for petrols, what the hell is the point? everyone already has a cat.. that should be doing the trick.. if not, then scrap petrols as well.. the Mk1 TDI 1.9 with its PD engine has a far better real-world mpg than any of Skoda's current range models.. DPF/PPF/GPF whatever.. they have been a backwards step and just burned more fuel than be useful to the environment.. the VAG scandal proves this to be true.. hybrids should be the order of the day, all new petrol/diesel cars should be hybrids, full electrics don't have yet the range compared to a diesel.. and petrols are not as clean as what everyone likes to put about.. it's all a bit of farce really. -

Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole - all with 1.0L engines + plus a PPF.. performance will drop off even more when that thing kicks in and there won't be enough poke to get up even a modest hills with a bit of weight in the car.. oh and I see it doesn't yet mention that its likely to come with a water pump which is guaranteed to fail on you and cause your engine to overheat!!!! -
