Octavia TDI starter won't turn the engine

Featured Replies

Hi,

New to the forum.

My 1.9 SLX won't start. I drove it to the shops, parked and when I got back in, the engine wouldn't turn over. I could hear the solenoid firing, and the power seemed to be pulling, but it wouldn't turn.

Called the AA who came out, checked it over said the battery was fine, but it was probably the starter motor and they tried to bump start it downhill, but it wasn't having any of it, so they towed me home.

Immibiliser seems fine and AA said it wasn't a problem.

I have fitted a new starter motor this morning (tested it before fitting), charged the battery and still, I turn the key, the solenoid goes click and the current is clearly being pulled by the starter motor (internal lights and dashboard dim dye to a huge current pull), but it doesn't turn the engine.

I'm now thinking that something internal is broken and it's time my trusty SLX went to the big graveyard in the sky. I'm hoping though that isn't the case.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks,

Grant :-)
