Aircon leak troubleshooting

Featured Replies

My VRS Aircon leaks. I had it gassed a month or so ago and it worked amazingly for about a week and now it's hissing and not as cold.

So I have a small leak, too small for the regassing machine to detect. How do I go about finding it? I suspect it could be the condenser as it looks like it's seen better days but don't want to swap it for nothing.

Any tips? Cheers

Got the exact same issue.

Tiny leak that the air con leak test couldn't find initially.

After 6 days in the garage, traced it down to the evaporator.

It sits behind the dash, so it needs the dash out to get to it.

My garage want £500 to strip the dash out, check/replace evaporator and refit.

Might be cheaper if the existing evaporator just needs adjusting.

I'm confident this will be your solution too.

I replaced the compressor as that was dead, and my condensor is fine. It's definitely the evaporator

Best of luck

Mine was the condensor. Had it regassed and the leak test, pressure drop, did not detect anything.

The regas contained a florescent dye and a black light test about two weeks later revealed that there was a leak on the condensor even though there was no apparent damage.

Sounds the same as mine that it didn't show up straight away.

I've just ordered a UV torch, this will be the first test to see if I can find anything obvious.

Then I'll take it to a specialist to fill up with nitrogen if nothing shows up.

Ouch. I really hope it's not that. I'll be more than happy to take the front end off but don't fancy taking a dash out :o

Had mine re gassed again 2nd time from same place .They had it on pressure for about 1 hr and couldnt find a leak . Have had a UV light over the inside of the engine bay anits d no leak or sign of a leak .

1 week later and back to not being ice cold .

Code  shows the pressure is low in the air con.

dont think its going to be an easy fix so I willworry about it when the hot summer comes around .

Taking the dash out is easier than you think, I've swapped the single zone A/C to dual zone, it's not that hard apart from 1 bolt hidden behind the loom on the passenger side.
