Door locks

Featured Replies

Hi All

I am having trouble with my door locks. Fist of all one rear door didn't lock when I pressed the central locking button, I ignored this and locked it manually. Now both rear doors will not open - that is either on the central locking or manually. If I lock the car on the central locking whilst I am in it - I cannot open any door manually. Because of the back doors not opening - it has failed its MOT. I am on a budget so would like to try and have a look at it myself - could anybody point me in the right direction as to the cause and poss fix?

Thank you

Mark

Hi, firstly you may find this useful

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/112185-door-card-removal-from-deadlocked-octavia/

Once you've got access to your doors (start with drivers door) you need to check your wiring looms for rubs, fractures, breakages especially where they pass window regulators and go through door pillars. Then check the multiplug that plugs into the window motor, water ingress can corrode the pins and start screwing with communications in the central locking. As you get each door open also lube the hell out of the lock mechs, they can sometimes just be sticky although your issues sound more terminal, lube won't hurt though.

I put a thread up in the tech guides on checking and protecting multiplugs, might also be useful. These issues are common and usually down to pins in the plug or a fault in the motor. If you hit Google with a search and octavia mk1 in the keywords you'll find loads of stuff that might also be useful. Good luck.

Thanks YellowCar - that's really helpful. Will have to get started tomorrow - MOT runs out Friday!

No worries. You may get really lucky and lube of the mechs and a clean up of the plug may get you through mot. Also try thumping the door below the handle in lock mech area as you try and unlock the car, it may shock it into popping up the pin.
