Service Interval

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Been thinking about this for a day or two, but thought I'd ask the good people of Briskoda too :)

I'm trying to work out what to do after my last free service is used up.

My car is on the hire purchase scheme which means I have to get it serviced about every 10,000 miles.

One of my colleagues reckons that this is a very short interval for a modern car, especially a diesel.

I know that on variable servicing the car can go to about 18,000 miles, but surely that's too long? I am sure I have heard of people having turbo failure bue to blocked oil pick up pipes etc?

What do you think?

Matt

I have had five Octavia diesels, traded them in at around 80,000 miles and currently running the Mk3 1.6. All the cars were on variable servicing which is 30k KM (18600 miles). Never had any problems with turbo's or oil pick up pipes.

Depending on journey patterns and driving style the variable servicing might come up sooner than the 18600.

Mines had its last free service so on its next at 40k it's going on long life, I have no worries about the space-time continuum unraveling.

Whether you run a diesel with  DPF on fixed or variable the oil is the same.

Sorry have you quoted wrong person? I didn't ask anything about oil.....

Thanks, I knew the oil was the same regardless of which regime it is on.

I do accept that on variable the services will more than likely be less than at 18,000 miles interval, but thought I'd ask all the same.

Looks like variable is probably the way to go then.

On my MK II I had it set to variable and then would use a pella to change the oil and filter at about 9000-10000 miles. The service would still happen at a dealer, so you got a full main dealer service history and 10,000  mile services.

I like your thinking :)
