So in the past I've never really been big in to the whole detailing thing. Yeah sure in my younger days I used to spend the day washing and waxing the car, but it was off the shelf halfrauds stuff.......nothing special.

Come the new Octavia, I'm trying to get in the habit of doing things right. Winter is approaching and I want to give it it's first wash and protect it for the winter months.

Got a new pressure washer (as my old one packed up last weekend), with snow foam lance (never used before so will be a learning curve). Have a clay bar and iron x to pre the body work, usual two buckets etc (don't worry I've read the many how to wash threads).

But the thing that still confuses me is protection, I've got poorboys Diamond white and Col476, which one should be used first. I'm sure I've read that the poorboys should be used first and then the col476 wax. Is that correct?

Is there anything else (that's fairly easy to use) that would add even more protection?

Poorboys White Diamond is a pre wax glaze with fillers, designed to enhance the paintwork reflectivity and fill any slight swirls prior to waxing or their own sealant (EX and EX-P)

Personally, I've never really got on with it...but others have

It needs a couple of hours to cure before wax, and I wont use sealer on a car with any product already on the paintwork..it just wont bond properly..despite what the manufacturer says!!

So my advice would be to, using what you've got, apply the White Diamond, buff off, leave a couple of hours and then apply the Collinite (Two coats an hour apart)

This will see you through the colder months and you can always apply some Quick Detailer after your weekly wash 'Duties'

Cheers for that Chris, in the spring I will probably invest in some other products. Only trouble is there is so much to choose from.

Also with the weekly wash duties, it's just like a normal wash correct - snow foam and two buckets. I do not need to take any special care to stop taking off the protection.

I've also got Meguiars quick wax, is it worth using that after the weekly wash to "top up" the protection or is Meguiars just quick detailer enough?

Either..You can add any spray wax or QD at any time

I really rate AG Quick Detailer too...Better than the Meguiars

I also rate Power Maxed QD...Really good

BUT

The best QD (QD Sealant) you can get...bar none, is Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer (BSD)

Use this and you'll not use much else. The level of protection and durability is epic!!

Just a light spray and wipe every couple of weeks over any wax or sealant

Thanks Chris.

I've bought the Sonax so will give it a go. Hoping to have a go this weekend before the cold weather sets in (fingers crossed the rain will stay away).

Forecast is good

Good luck
